Кометы галлеевского типа (также называются кометами семейства Нептуна) имеют период обращения вокруг Солнца P<200 лет, наклонение орбиты от 0° до 180°, инвариант Тиссерана <2. Многие из комет семейства Нептуна наблюдались всего лишь 1 или 2 раза с момента открытия. Орбиты комет семейства Нептуна более неустойчивы, чем орбиты комет семейства Юпитера, так как подвергаются гравитационным возмущениям со стороны планет-гигантов.
